IJP hosts the II Latin Polar Science Workshop

On 16 April, the Portucalense Legal Institute (IJP) hosted the II Latin Polar Science Workshop, organised in partnership with the independent network Latin Polar Science.

Held in a hybrid format, the event featured several thematic panels addressing key issues in polar science, covering topics ranging from security and geopolitical dynamics in polar regions to the impacts of climate change.

These panels brought together experts from academia, diplomacy, and national and international organisations, including Hanne Brusletto, Ambassador of Norway to Portugal, representatives of the French think tank Le Cercle Polaire and the Tekever group, as well as Sherri Goodman (Secretary General of the International Military Council on Climate and Security), who presented the book “Threat Multiplier”, contributing to the discussion on global challenges related to the polar regions.

During the afternoon, three sessions of paper presentations were also held, providing a dynamic space for sharing ongoing research across different thematic areas within polar science.

The event reinforced interdisciplinary dialogue and international cooperation, particularly between Southern Europe and Latin America, highlighting the role of these regions in advancing scientific research on global challenges linked to the polar regions.
